Sherwood Care Redevelopment Project Groundbreaking

The Sherwood Care Redevelopment Project is designed to be the ideal destination for seniors aging in place.

The plan envisions a campus of care that will serve as a community hub for a range of healthcare services, including long-term care, adult day programs, and hospice care. The groundbreaking for phase one of the project – featuring a 210-bed long term care and 13-bed hospice facility – was celebrated on October 10th, 2024. Graham Capital is the development and finance lead on this monumental project and has been supporting Sherwood Care in navigating the preconstruction process since 2020, along with Graham Construction and S2 Architecture.

The Government of Alberta has granted $87.9 million to the Project through the Continuing Care Capital Program.

About the project…

All 223 rooms in the facility are private and designed to the current Continuing Care Design Standards and Best Practices. The suites are grouped into 14-bed units known as “households,” with each designed to function as a small, self-contained space that will meet the residents’ daily needs. These households include all the essential spaces for residents, such as their own dining room, living room, outdoor area, and space for the care team. Additionally, the facility boasts a 117-stall underground parkade, a bistro for visitors to enjoy refreshments, a rooftop patio, and an auditorium.

What’s next?

The new facility is scheduled to reach substantial completion in the fall of 2027, at which point the 100 residents in the existing facility will move into their new home. After the current facility is vacated, it will be demolished to clear the space for a surface parking lot and final landscaping. This will mark the completion of phase one and pave the way for phase two.
